Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Search engine optimization is tweeking your site in order for it to rank high in search engines.  SEO happens in two places, on your site and off your site.  In order to do on site SEO you must know at least a little bit of HTMLKeyword research must also be done for on site SEO  Off site SEO involves again, keyword research, link trading, directory submissions, article submissions, and sometimes link purchasing.

SEO is generally logic mixed with educational guesses.  To understand the basics of SEO you must understand how search engines generally work.  Search engines do their best to find the most relevant websites.  The key is convincing search engines not to mention visitors that your site is the most relevant site out there for the keywords you are targeting.  (Sometimes people get way out in left field trying to make their website relevant for search engines that they forget that their website is for the benefit of people.)  Some people have a really great product to sell or some very useful information to give out, but because their site isn’t relevant to search engines a.k.a. “search engine friendly”, not too many people will ever see your product or information.

Ingram Entertainment a distributor of DVDs, video games, audio books, and other related products.  I spoke to them shortly over the phone.  They have no minimums, but it doesn’t sound like they dropship.  If you were interested in using them as a supplier, you would have to stock your products.

Submit Your Site To Directories

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

In the last article I talked about not submitting your site to search engines. In that article I also talked about how you can get into search engines faster by getting links that point to your site on other sites. An easy way to get links to your site is by submitting your site to directories. Directories can give you quality one way links to your site. There are basicly three types of directories, free directories, directories that cost, or directories that will give you a free link if you put a link to their site on your site (this is also known as a reciprocal link exchange or link trading). I will never trade links with a directory unless the directory is related to my site. And I’ve come to the conclusion that I will not pay for directory listings unless I absolutely have to.

When submitting your site to a directory, they will ask you for the title of your site. Don’t just put in your website name unless the directory requires you to. Before submitting your site to directories, you should have done some keyword research. After doing keyword research, you will know what key terms that your customers are using to find your site. Use those keywords or keyphrases as the title of your site in the directories. This will help you to rank for those keywords in search engines. You will find that it takes time to fill out all those forms to submit your site. Here is a tool that you will grow to love.  It is called Robo Form. With one click it will fill the forms for you. This helps speed up the process.

Do Not Submit Your Site To Search Engines

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Many beginners think the secret to getting into search engines is by submitting your site to them. But actually you can get into search engines quicker just by having links on other sites pointing to your site. There are some scammers out there who will actually advertise that they will submit your site to hundreds of search engines for you for a lot of money. It’s a rip off. Don’t do it. And actually I’m only interested in three search engines. They are Google, Yahoo, and MSN. You might ask why only these three? These three search engines are the major search engines. You will find that most of your visitors that arrive on your site via a search engine will come from one of these three search engines.

You might have read all this and now your thinking, how do I get links to my site? Well, one of the fastest and easiest ways to get links to your site is to submit your site to directories. There are hundreds of free ones. Here is a site that has a list of directories that are free.

american-retro.com dropships pedal toys. When I first looked into selling pedal cars, I was really amazed with how many searches there were for pedal cars and how little competition there was.
