Picking Out A Domain Name

When picking out a domain name, there are a few things to consider. A domain name should be as short as possible and something easy to remember. In my opinion it is better to go with a dot com over a dot net or any other domain ending. In the beginning of the web world there were only dot com endings so dot com will forever be branded in the general publics brain.

There has been some talk in the past that keywords in a domain name will carry more wait in search engines. I believe this is to be partly true in a round about way so whenever possible I try to get keywords in my domain names. My reasoning is when you do directory submissions there are many directories who want only the official title of your website. I will be writting up an article on directory submissions in the future to help explian this concept further. If you can’t get a keyword in the domain, or you came up with a cool original name, don’t worry about it. Original can be much better than a keyword domain if marketed right. For example this site does not have a keyword domain. I thought the name was cool. If there were an internet cereal, Web Puffs would be it.

There are many places to buy domains, but my favorite is Go Daddy.
Godaddy is pretty cheap and they are well known.

[...] Assuming you have done all your homework, you have done all your research, it is time to actually buy your domain and find a hosting provider. My favorite domain name registrar is godaddy.com. First thing you have to do is buy your domain. Your domain name is the name of your site. This sites domain name is webpuffs.com. After you have a domain name ready, you need hosting. Your domain name just gives you a name. Hosting is like renting. You pay so much a month to have a space for your site on the world wide web. In order to have a website on the world wide web you have to have both, a domain name and a hosting provider. My favorite hosting company is Bluecityhosts.com. For beginners, the smallest package at Bluecity Hosts should work for your needs. Purchase a hosting package. When you purchase a hosting package, the hosting provider will give you passwords and the address to their name servers. It usually takes around 24 hours for everything to go live. [...]
