My Brother’s Website Part 3

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Before I go on writting about Anthony’s website, let me share with you about my brother. Anthony and I have always been pretty close growing up. He is a year older than me. We used to dream about what we were going to be when we got big and growd up. :) Anthony is a hilarious guy. You would always catch him doing crazy stuff. Like one time, we had this neighbor named Bradley. Bradley had some hygeine issues. This kid either dookied in his pants or he didn’t wipe correctly. Bradley’s family was pretty hygeine deficient also. They let their dog take a dump all over their house and would just leave it there. They tied their dog around the kitchen table and they would seriously let their dog crap all over the floor. One day, Anthony, Bradley, and I found an abandoned garage. In the garage was a fire extinguisher. Anthony figured he could help clear up Bradley’s hygeine problem. My brother took the fire extinguisher, shoved it down the back of Bradley’s pants, and sprayed it. Bradley started crying and screaming. He started yelling, “it burns, it burns.” Anthony would do all sorts of wild things at the expense of others. I did some naughty things in my day, but we are talking about Anthony right now.

Now to the website, to get links to the site, I recommended that Anthony should go in coin collecting forums and put his link in his signature. I will be doing some directory submissions for him, some link trading, and maybe even article submissions. Most people won’t trade links with sites with a PR of 0 so I created a page where the links will be placed. I will first do the directoy submissions and try to do some link trading. When the site gains some PR at the next update then I will pursue trading links heavier.

Here is a quick how to of link trading. You can go into webmaster/seo forums to see if anyone is interested in trading links. You can find your competitors and do the following search in Yahoo. “linkdomain:www.competitor.com”. This will show all the sites who are linked to your competition’s site. I do my best to only put quality links on my site. I want links on my link page that I feel that my customers would really be interested in. I don’t want link page after link page. I want my link page to be clean looking. I will talk about this in much more detail in a later article.

My Brother’s Website Part 2

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Well, I have the home page pretty much done.  I talked with my brother, Anthony, and asked him if it would be alright if I told everyone the details on his site like what key phrases I’m optimizing it for and who, what, where, when, how, and why.  He said he didn’t care, so here I go.  Here is a link to his site: www.truecoingrading.com.

For right now, I’m only going for two phrases “coin grading” and “coin grading services”.  I put coin grading services in the title tags and my H1 is coin grading services.  I’ll probably try to throw in an H2 with coin grading.  There is very little competition for coin grading.  There are around 2 million in Google.  Each one of my target phrases bring in over 100 searches a day, which isn’t much.  But it is a good start.

Building My Brother’s Website

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

I’m going to start working on a website for my brother tomorrow. My brother is a coin collector and was interested in starting a coin grading website. Since I’m graphically challenged, I picked out a good template for him. I’m going to make it PHP based. I’m pretty new to PHP, but I’m really seeing the benefits of having PHP based sites versus HTML. You can do some sweet stuff with PHP. One of the biggest helps is the ability to do file includes. This is where your header is a file, your navigation is a file, and your footer is a file. With HTML to change your header you have to change the header on each page. Doing a file include with PHP you change your header file and it changes the header on all the pages automatically. It works nicely.

I will keep you posted on my progess of my brother’s site. I would give you a live link, but my hosting is just getting set up for it.

World Wide Brands Review

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Okay, I went out and bought a membership to the World Wide Brands Drop Ship Directory. The bad news is I can’t post any more dropshippers on my websites unless they are not in the World Wide Brands Directory. :( It’s part of their user agreement not to post their lists of dropshippers up on websites or any other venue. I will keep the dropshippers up that I found previous to my membership purchase since I found all those on my own.

Now, with that all said, the $69 membership fee is worth every penny. There are tons and tons of dropshippers on their list. Each dropshipper on their list is the real deal. They screen every business that claims to be a dropshipper only true dropshippers end up on their list. My frustration as I flipped through the list is there are too many to choose from.

My whole reasoning of purchasing the membership is to find a good product that I can sell on Ebay. The products I currently sell do great on my websites, but not on Ebay. From the two product sites I own, only used versions of my product sell well on Ebay. I deal with all new products so they aren’t hopping on Ebay. I just want to venture out on Ebay more just for the fun of it. This will also diversify my business a bit more.

I heard so much talk about World Wide Brands. Most people said they were awesome. A few said this and that. But if I were to grade Worldwidebrands.com, I would give them an A+. Check them out some time.

Back To The Basics

Friday, April 21st, 2006

I enjoy helping people with their websites. I was talking with a friend of mine today, who reads my blog. I realized that I’ve been really skipping around the very basics. This blog should be enjoyable for newbies and veterans. So here it is, we are going back to the basics.

Assuming you have done all your homework, you have done all your research, it is time to actually buy your domain and find a hosting provider. My favorite domain name registrar is godaddy.com. First thing you have to do is buy your domain. Your domain name is the name of your site. This sites domain name is webpuffs.com. After you have a domain name ready, you need hosting. Your domain name just gives you a name. Hosting is like renting. You pay so much a month to have a space for your site on the world wide web. In order to have a website on the world wide web you have to have both, a domain name and a hosting provider. My favorite hosting company is Bluecityhosts.com. For beginners, the smallest package at Bluecity Hosts should work for your needs. Purchase a hosting package. When you purchase a hosting package, the hosting provider will give you passwords and the address to their name servers. It usually takes around 24 hours for everything to go live.

You’re not done yet. After you get all the passwords and name server info from the hosting provider, you have to go back to your domain name registrar. Enter into your account at your registrar. In your account you should have a link or a button titled set name servers. Click on that button or link and put in your name server information from your hosting provider. You are now all set to add files to your hosting. As soon as your files are added, bam! there’s your site.

For more information on building a website, be sure to read articles under the how to build a website category.

$3 A Month For A Link On My Home Page

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

I’m offering a few link spaces for websites related to my blog.  This blog has a PR of 4 and last time I looked I had about 407 unique visitors so far for the month of April.  If you are interested, email me.  I’m very picky which sites I will link out to.  You must be webmaster, web design, SEO, marketing, drop ship related.
