How to Get Rid of Those Cartoon Images in osCommerce

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

So how do you get rid of those cartoon images in osCommerce?

It’s actually really simple.  Go into your admin section, click on images, then set heading image width to 0, then set heading image height to 1.  That’s it, all done.

If you have installed the STS contribution, you will find that the info boxes leave ugly corner images.  The easiest way to get rid of these corner images is to make them transparent.  I can email the images to you to save time.  Just comment to this thread leaving your email, or just simply send us an email.  I would paste the urls to the images, but you can’t see them so they are kind of hard to right click and save.

There are a few other cartoon images such as the image that appears after you make an account.  You will have to either make these other images transpararent or created your own image to go with the look of your site.  Read more about customizing osCommerce here.

The Easy Way to Customize osCommerce

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

During my sabbatical, I started playing around with osCommerce just for fun. I found a contribution that is awesome. It’s called the Simple Template System or STS for short. You can check out our store to get an idea of what the STS contribution can do. We aren’t 100% done with it yet, but you get the idea. To install the STS contribution it is better to start off with a clean osCommerce install with no other contributions added previously. The STS contribution is super easy to install. I’m not a coder and I had no problems installing it. After installing it, I created a template. I couldn’t get the Word Press theme template to work so I recreated a template of Webpuffs using plain HTML. Making the template is what took me the longest.  You could create your own template like I did, or buy a template.

The next thing you will discover is that the infoboxes leave little pics in the corners and that there are all those ghetto looking cartoon images by the page heading.  On my next post I will talk about how to get rid of the ghetto little cartoon images in oscommerce.  I have to go eat pizza. :)

News About Me

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

I made that last post 3:30 in the morning so it wasn’t very clear. This is pretty much how it’s going down. Jeff and I are splitting the revenue 50/50 on this site. By the end of the month, maybe we can each buy a Happy Meal. :) Jeff created a script so that we can split the Adsense clicks 50/50. Jeff is the man when it comes to coding. Like I stated in the last article, we will be tag team posting. I have a feeling I will be in the ring more than him.

During my sabbatical (On my last post I said I handed this blog over to my brother-in-law a month ago. It was actually two months ago.), I haven’t been doing much web stuff. I’ve been playing around a little with os Commerce. I figured a few cool things out that I will share with you at a later date. My one website that brings in most of the dough is still doing great. I believe we have reached my first goal of replacing my wife’s income. I spoke of this goal in this article. We may have even passed it. I will know for sure at the end of the year when we add all of our profits together.

I’m still doing children’s ministry. I’m having a blast and running hard. Lately, I’ve been diving into more adult related ministry stuff. I’ve been soaking up marriage books and reading stuff on different doctrines and end time prophecy. I’ve also been sharpening my children’s ministry skills, I’ve been learning how to do more magic tricks. I’m a regular Houdini. :) Life is good. Until next time…

Jon

I’m Back… Kind Of

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

It’s been about a month since I handed this blog over to my brother-in-law, Jeff.  I got rid of all my sites except for one to focus more time on my family and on my job.  You can read my farewell post here.  Ever since then, I’ve been itching to blog or do something internet related.  I just enjoy it a lot.

After some thought and some talks with Jeff, we have decided to tag team post here on Webpuffs.  I’m going to limit the time that I spend on Webpuffs to protect my time with my family so I won’t post nearly every day like I did in the past.  So I’m back, but not in the same capacity I was in the past.  Jeff is still the official owner of Webpuffs.  He has the domain.  I’m just going to post here and there.  Jeff and I have a few things in the works.  One that I will mention is a store that we are adding to the blog.  I believe the products we will sell, will be helpful to a lot of webmaster out there.  It’s 3:30 in the morning.  I will share more details later.
