Gimp, the Poor Man’s Photo Shop
I’ve been using Gimp for years now. I totally recommend Gimp to those who are starting their own internet business and have a low budget. For many getting started out you don’t have a huge budget to pay a designer. Why pay out a lot of money, when you don’t have to? If you’ve, read any of my posts you would see I’m one of the biggest tight wads. My biggest reason for using Gimp is the cost, it is free
Some of you Photo Shop users would probably dog me big time for giving props to Gimp. Gimp may not be in the same league as Photo Shop, but it can hold it’s own. Gimp is like Photo Shop in several ways.
- You can work with layers in Gimp
- You can convert PS brushes for Gimp. Or you can download already converted brushes.
- Gimp can open up many PSD files. (Gimp can’t seem to open up the newest version of PSD files. This can be a bummer if you tend to edit PSD files on a regualr basis, but if not, no big deal.)
If you are just getting started with Gimp, I would recommend that you visit youtube.com and watch Gimp tutorials. I’d rather watch tutorials then read tutorials. If you are planning on designing your own sites, I would be very careful to pay attention to details. Your design will either scare would be customers away or bring them to you. It is a good idea to look around at other popular sites to see what designs are hot. Check Gimp out sometime. Have fun!
