I Sold My Baby

You might have read the headline and thought I was the scum of the earth.  I sold my website that was making me $xx,xxx a year.  You may be asking why in the world did you sell a site that was making you a 5 figure income?  Well, if you have been reading around on my posts, you would see some of my rants on ecommerce and customer service issues.  My site was an ecommorce site and the product was one that required a lot of phone service.  It really raised the stress level around our house.  To me, there are somethings that are worth more than money, like peace.  While I was gone at work day and night,  :)  my wife was stuck at home with our sometimes screaming and crying kids ( my daugther is almost 1 while my son is almost 3) trying to run the business plus be a mom.  Our customers were mostly business individuals.  It wasn’t very professional like to have kids screaming in the background if you know what I’m saying.  We missed quite a few calls.  To add to the stress, on my limited time off, I had to focus on business stuff to make up for what my wife didn’t get done during the day/week.  With all that I mentioned plus a few other factors, we decided it was time to sell the site.

So what am I going to do now?  I’m looking to buy websites that are making $5,000 - $10,000 a year and that require minimum customer service.  An example would be an affiliate driven site.  I figure if I buy several sites instead of one, I will diversify my income instead of putting all my eggs in one basket.  If you have any sites for sale that are making between $5K and $10K a year , send me an email at jonlewis1109[at]gmail.com.

Have you heard of this web site http://www.sitepoint.com/ where web sites are bought and sold . I ‘ve looked at it , but I don’t know much about it and if you have , could you please comment on it if it’s a good place for a newbie to make a purchase. If you have some other suggestion’s I would greatly appreciate it . Thank You

Actually, that’s where I’ve been looking for websites. I think Sitepoint is a great place to look for sites. In my opinion, the sites found on there tend to be of higher quality then the sites sold on Ebay and even forums.digitalpoint.com.

Sometimes the sites on Sitepoint are a bit over priced. If you buy a site on there do your homework. If the seller doesn’t put screen shots up of earnings, I ignore their listing. If you are paying a large amount of money for the site be sure to use escrow.com. This will help you not to get robbed. :)
